Community Development
COMMUNITY

The process of enabling local residents to act collectively to improve their living conditions is known as community development. Better job opportunities, healthcare, education, and infrastructure are all part of it.
The historic "Nanna Guruthu" (My Identity) program in Karnataka is testing a digital drive to safely store important documents for SC/ST beneficiaries using DigiLocker, including Aadhaar, caste certificates, health IDs, and MGNREGA job cards. Two gram panchayats have already digitized nearly 25,000 records, and a proposal of ₹16 crore for FY26 calls for the model to be expanded to 1,137 villages. By giving community-level gram sabhas document control, this project improves access to welfare services and fosters transparency.
Uttar Pradesh has restored 50 rivers totaling 3,363 km under the Namami Gange–MNREGA initiative, raising groundwater levels and facilitating rural communities' access to water. Additionally, 3,388 ponds, embankment work, and riverside plantations have been included in the restoration, generating employment and improving eco-service functions in more than 1,000 gram panchayats.
By providing a "business-in-a-box" ecommerce framework, the eSamudaay platform is empowering more than 2,500 small-town entrepreneurs in eight towns. From tea vendors to pharmacies, local retailers benefit from digital storefronts, market access, credit eligibility, and financial literacy thanks to India Stack and open-source tools. The model prioritizes self-reliance and community ownership over centralized platforms.
