Anti-drug campaigns
ACTIVISM

A significant development in drug awareness occurred at Banaras Hindu University (BHU), where the "Drug‑Free Youth for Developed India" initiative included a poster-making competition and awareness rally.
The "Nashe Se Doori Hai Zaroori" campaign in Bhopal began with a 15-day public awareness campaign. The initiative, which was flagged off by the Police Commissioner, involved law enforcement, civic organizations, and students. While programs like pamphlets, video screenings, and public discussions were held throughout the city to promote a drug-free lifestyle, participants made a commitment to abstain from drug use (The Times of India).
On the International Day against Drug Abuse, the government of Himachal Pradesh announced that a chapter on the risks of drug use would be added to the state's curriculum. Furthermore, a 100-bed new de-addiction facility is being planned in Kotla Barog, with a focus on skill development and rehabilitation.
Another forward-thinking initiative is Project UMEED, launched at AIIMS Gorakhpur. It focuses on adolescents and peer-led awareness. More than 100 institutions and schools are involved, and the campaign trains students to resist peer pressure and recognize misleading marketing tactics by the tobacco and drug industries.
At the national level, the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan (NMBA) led the “Nasha Mukt Pakhwada” campaign from June 11 to 26, 2025. This movement reached over 15 crore citizens, including students and women, through walkathons, bike rallies, and public pledges. Over 4 lakh educational institutions and more than 20,000 trained master volunteers participated in promoting a drug-free India.
